We – THE GREENS

We, THE GREENS (i.e. ZELENITE), are citizens who actively oppose the destruction of nature in Bulgaria and have done so for the past years. In May 2008 we registered a new political party to finally have an effective political representation for our ideas and succeed in preserving the Bulgarian nature and to develop civil society in the country.

We, THE GREENS, decided to go for the forthcoming elections independently. We are running for the European Parliament and the National Assembly of Bulgaria in the elections in June / July 2009.

The three pillars of our programme are:

1. Preserving Bulgarian nature – some of our current campaigns are: for the protection of Vitosha mountain nature park against the illegal expansion of ski resorts in the nature park; for the protection of Strandja nature park against excessive construction within the mountain area and along the seaside.

2. Citizen participation and control on all levels of decision making within the state when it concerns the development of the country and the future of its people and nature. Our strategic concept “To bring the state back to its people” aims at changing the very structure of the state to allow for citizen participation.

3. To make Bulgaria a country where people want to stay, could fulfill their potential and be happy.

Our aims are simple. We have the will and the people to make it happen. But now we need your help! We want to be independent from corporate interests and influences, that is why we fund our work only from membership fee and donations. We seek the support of like-minded, ordinary people who care for Bulgaria and its nature – people like us.

In order to run for the 2009 elections for European Parliament and National Assembly of Bulgaria we need to deposit: 50,000 leva (about 25,000 euros) for the European Parliament elections, and another 50,000 leva for the National Assembly elections (as required by national legislation). A similar amount we need for our pre-election campaign – to be able to make our voice heard.

The donations that we have raised will be reported openly and on a daily basis on the web site (www.bulgariangreens.org)

For us THE GREENS is not a political party, it is a way of living. It is a cause for life – a cause we live.
